Abandoned Memorial Hospital

St. Kilda's Memorial Institute long stood on the edge of the town sitting in derelict darkness for the better part of two decades. In the room pictured, the last patient in the hospital died here in this room. The family, unwilling and unable to move on returns frequently to this location to maintain the shrine they built for their loved one.

This hospital started out as a scene in Blender a few years back. I resumed work on this earlier this year, using some older meshes as placeholders but changed the room as it is inspired by "Lery's Memorial Institute" which is a map in Behaviour interactive's "Dead By Daylight".

I wanted to have this scene dominantly blues and greens but have the roses be the object that grounds the viewer and gets the attention. After many weeks of part-time work on this, I am very happy with the result.

Torn posters, floor and wall tiles were acquired on Quixel.

Make sure to check out the Sketchfab uploads of some of the models on my "3D Game Models" page.

If you wish to use any of these images for your project/video, please message me first. Thank you!

I brought in the individual pieces from my old Blender project (the monitor, lamp and sink) and began to reconstruct a room based on Lery's Memorial Institute. I blocked out a basic room where I had an idea, followed by placing temporary assets.

The main theme I wanted to portray was horror as well as loss. I knew right away that I wanted to have a hospital bed helping to shape a frame as well to act as a table to place some objects to show a memorial.

The first initial detail pass of the hospital bed, flowers and the flower pot. I decided against having a concrete ceiling with chipped paint and stayed more with a ceiling tile structure similar to Lery's. It would be effective to make it look damaged.

I decided to delete the placeholder sink and start over using reference photos. The composition and lighting continued to be worked on.

The ceiling tiles continued to grow and improve with more detail and the scene kept coming closer together as more details were added. The lamp was also moved back over the bed as a type of framing device to frame the eyes.

The shelves and cupboards were touched up and painted as well as other various adjustments. The biggest change here was the lighting as the blue and green tone was too dominant. The yellow-orange light helped to improve the scene.
